heart and sword pledged for the people to save
lonely the bell whose clapper has broken
desert the soul where no love is spoke
we sing the sweet song of each other’s name
the sound of these words makes the bell ring again

your long arms make me the sweetest of rooms
that’s how we sleep now inside of those spoons
the call of drums leads you from home
salt and air and laughter, red roses and stone
a ring, a wish, a sigh of regret
innocent dreams we pledge not to forget
we cannot tell our warm tears from the rain
